Malwina Kołodziejczyk: Deep Listening to the Arctic

  • Vei 223 Longyearbyen, Svalbard, 9170 Svalbard and Jan Mayen (kart)

During her artistic residency in Svalbard, Malwina Kołodziejczyk is developing the project Deep Listening to the Arctic. A practice of listening to the polar night, as well as to the artist’s own body and emotions, when darkness reshapes perception and sound becomes the primary sense. The Arctic is not treated as a landscape to be represented, but as a living acoustic space.

During her stay, Malwina visited the exhibitions at Nordover Art Centre, and encountering the works of Kåre Tveter became a powerful moment of recognition. During the polar night, much of the surrounding world existed only in Malwina’s imagination. Kåre Tveter’s paintings reflected this inner vision of light, space, solitude and the still-unexplored mystery of the Arctic landscape. For this reason, performing in this space is both an honour and an integral part of the performance.

This concert is an invitation into deep listening - a shared experience of presence, immersion, and an encounter with a landscape that cannot always be seen, but can be deeply heard.
